Our test, PS Detect, identifies the fertilization potential of your sperm—a revolutionary measurement backed by the latest in fertility research. By measuring the PS biomarker, we provide the answers you need to move forward with confidence.
The Latest in Sperm Testing
Find the missing piece in male fertility.

Current male fertility testing fails to identify many factors causing infertility, leaving these issues undiagnosed and untreated. Despite male infertility impacting nearly half of all couples struggling with infertility, the standard male fertility testing misses a vital component for fertilization. That’s where we come in.

Easy At-Home Testing
Skip the awkward office visits. Collect your sample in the privacy of your own home. You and your physician can use the results to pursue the most appropriate, cost-effective treatment for you.
Ideal Patients for PS Detect
Males with a varicocele
Up to 40% of males with infertility have a varicocele, but most men are completely unaware. PS Detect can identify patients that would benefit from a varicocele repair, which has been shown to improve PS Score to pregnancy-proven levels.
01
Couples exploring fertility treatments, including IUI or IVF
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) may be a viable option for couples who are considering fertility treatments, and PS Detect can help guide that decision.
02
Couples with unexplained infertility
When answers aren’t coming, PS Detect could provide the missing data point to an otherwise normal male fertility panel and help you and your physician pick the most effective treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from a conventional semen analysis?
Standard semen analyses look at sperm count, shape, and movement. Our PS Detect test goes deeper, measuring the fertilization competency of your sperm through the PS biomarker.
How does the PS Detect test work?
A breakthrough discovery by researchers at the University of Virginia found that phosphatidylserine (PS) expression on the surface of sperm is essential for sperm-egg fusion. The PS Detect test quantifies sperm with exposed PS to determine fertilization competence.
What is the PS Score?
The PS Score measures the percentage of sperm that express PS. Even if your sperm count and motility seem normal, a low PS Score is correlated with infertility.
What can I do if my PS Score is low?
Our research shows that a minimally invasive procedure known as a varicocele repair can improve PS Scores to pregnancy-proven levels for varicocele patients, and further research is ongoing.
How long does it take to get results?
Once we receive your sample, you can expect to have results within a week.
Is PS Detect covered by insurance or FSA/HSA?
Currently, PS Fertility kits are not covered by insurance and must be paid out-of-pocket. However, you may be able to receive reimbursement through your HSA or FSA plan. Contact your plan provider to confirm that the expense is eligible. If approved, you can purchase the kit with your personal credit card and submit a receipt to your HSA or FSA provider for reimbursement. You can access detailed receipts through your PS Fertility account.
Varicocele and Male Fertility
A varicocele is a common condition where the veins in the scrotum become swollen and enlarged. They often develop during puberty and do not go away on their own. While varicocele can be harmless in some men, it may cause infertility in others.
- 15% of all men have a varicocele.
- A varicocele is present in up to 40% of men with infertility, but is often not diagnosed. If you have not been evaluated to see if you have a varicocele, we recommend you schedule an appointment with a reproductive urologist for evaluation.
- Varicoceles are the most frequently identifiable cause of male infertility.

Varicocele Repair Improves PS Score
A relatively minor surgical procedure is available for this condition, but it is often underutilized to treat male infertility because diagnostic testing hasn’t been available to show improved fertility following treatment—until now.
PS Detect can effectively identify patients who would benefit from a varicocele repair. Our recent study has shown that over 40% of patients with a varicocele had a PS Score below normal, and varicocele repair significantly improved PS Scores to pregnancy-proven levels.
