A New Way to Detect Fertility
PS Detect is an innovative new male fertility diagnostic test that detects whether sperm have the ability to fertilize an egg.
PS Fertility. A New Direction.
For decades, sperm testing has focused on count, shape and motility. But now there’s a way to gain greater insight into not only the health of sperm, but its competence and functionality. PS Fertility offers new testing, called PS Detect, that is simple, private and timely that has the potential to guide treatment, provide solutions and offer a new avenue of hope for fertility.
An Exciting New Way to Detect Fertility
PS Detect is an innovative new male fertility diagnostic test that detects whether sperm have the ability to fertilize an egg.
Fertility Matters
The majority of current fertility testing focuses on women, putting the onus of fertility issues on their shoulders. Traditional tests for men that are used were developed more than 60 years ago. PS Fertility is changing that with testing that focuses on the male’s ability to fertilize an egg – not simply on sperm’s viability.
Expertise
A groundbreaking discovery from researchers at the University of Virginia School of Medicine led to fresh insights on how sperm and eggs fuse. Two of the original researchers, Jeffrey Lysiak and Kodi Ravichandran, are co-founders of PS Fertility. They are continuing their work into the egg’s role in the fertilization process, which lays the groundwork for innovative fertility treatments.
The PS Factor
The UVA research uncovered a molecular marker (phosphatidylserine or PS) on the surface of sperm that binds with a corresponding substance on the egg to facilitate fusion. Our new testing focuses on the presence of PS, an indicator of the competency of the sperm to promote fusion with the egg for viable fertilization.
The discovery that started it all

PS Fertility has a new home
PS Fertility is investing $1.4 million to build a headquarters and laboratory in Albemarle County, Virginia dedicated to male fertility testing and diagnosis.
